Variety in peasant dress

Those had to be practical, to last long and fit well. In summer time women wore linen shirts and aprons, men wore linen shirts and pants; winter dress was half woollen. There were no decorations, and in case a worn out festive dress was turned into work clothes, its ornaments were unstitched.

Especially women were careful to wear their sashes at work, linking them to the protection of health and several magic beliefs, as sashes were worn to give support against straining and add strength.
