These modern accordions (called akordion in Estonian) were first introduced in the 1920s by sailors who bought them in Finland, Sweden or Germany. On the right are keys for the chroamtic melody and on the left are buttons for base and chords. The most recent introduction are accordions with melody base, where the left-side buttons can be switched to play the melody.
The first accordion players acquired their skills by self studies. There were no relevant schools or experienced players. Accordion is taught widely in music schools and also in college today.
