Estonia. Autumn 1944. There's a war going on, the Russian front is drawing nearer. People living on the shore are panicking, within a few weeks thousands of people escape to Sweden. Villages become empty. Despite all that, a young woman with big gray eyes steps off the boat. Eetla did not take the last boat, she gave up the last chance to escape. Defying the cold September winds and rain, she goes back to his father Gottfrid's house. It is unexpected to both herself and her father. Leaving turns into coming back and recognising yourself.
Is it fear that makes Eetla turn away from the reality? The fear of tomorrow. The uncertainty. Where to escape? Eetla is looking for a way out in her dreams by telling about them to her father, a young doctor, Kasper who has excaped from the city and to herself. To everyone who listens. Talking keeps the moment between the past and the future, yesterday and the uncertainty alive. It is almost like a prayer which is carried by the fear of losing the balance. The balance between reality and dream. This is what Eetla is afraid and what "Somnambulist" is about.
