Workshops
Workshops mainly concentrate on diatonic accordions. You can listen and observe, but also learn new tunes and dances. The workshops take place in Viljandi Culture House (Tallinn Str. 5), Kondas Centre (Pikk Str. 8) and Päikesekillu Family Center (Posti Str. 24). The organizers have the right to limit the number of gathering workshop participants in the case of obvious overcrowding.
In the workshops by Estonian masters our best experts will give an overview of the history of different types of diatonic accordions demonstrating different playing traditions, and instructing on Teppo-type diatonic accordion, karmoshka and accordion.
The Festival mission to introduce foreign cultures continues. Several members of foreign bands offer their experience with and relationship to the peculiarities of the music of their country. Common to Viljandi Folk Music Festival there are singing workshops for men, women and babies.
All instrument players, both amateurs and professional musicians are very welcome because the instructors of the workshops are also ready to teach the stylistics of their folk music, performing manners and playing details. Thus – take your instrument along! If you want to leave your instrument for safekeeping until the next workshop, ask the workshop coordinators for help.
The workshops by musicians coming from outside Estonia are ticketed (15EEK) in order to avoid somewhat accidental students and enable those interested to get absorbed by the knowledge taught thoroughly and in tranquility.
Be present sufficiently early before the workshop begins.
