Familiar musicians, new format
Ensemble RO:TORO plays mainly traditional bagpipe tunes and their original compositions have also been inspired by them. Saxophone and percussion add modern touch to the bagpipes, however, their sound remains ancient and bagpipe centered.
Cätlin Jaago has studied bagpipes at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy. Sandra has been her student for seven years already and playing together they have developed a fantastic musical metacognition. Marko Mägi with his saxophone jazz adds freshness to the bagpipes and provides exciting improvisational bridges. Silver Sepp has discovered special rhythm instruments – bowls, the sound of which matches wonderfully that of the bagpipes.
